The International Gender and Language Association was established in 1999. A development of the graduate-student-run Berkeley Women and Language Group, IGALA is an international interdisciplinary organization that is committed to the promotion and support of research on language, gender, and sexuality. To fulfil such a commitment, IGALA aims:
- To encourage communication of the results of such research, in particular through the Association's journal, Gender and Language (henceforth 'the Journal'), and through the Association's biennial conferences
- To create and support international and national research networks
- To encourage research across disciplinary boundaries
- To speak authoritatively to the wider world about gender, sexuality and language issues, through appropriate media
The International Gender and Language Association (IGALA) is associated with the Gender & Language Journal (Equinox). You can join IGALA as a regular member from the Equinox website by going to the subscription pages and chosing IGALA membership. Regular Membership includes a subscription to the journal.
