European Science Foundation Exploratory Workshop: Can Complexity Improve European Health Policy? 23rd - 25th September 2009, Lancaster House Hotel Despite increased resources and multiple reorganisations national health systems in Europe still seem to be in a state of crisis. Many of the interwoven problems of European health and health systems are based on the fundamental limitations of the dominant biomedical/bio-psychosocial models. In this workshop we will will explore a new scientific framework, Complexity, that offers a novel way for understanding and improving health at individual, group and societal levels.

Coffee break (3:00 - 3:30) Session E: (3:30 - 5:00) Complexity and Primary Care Systems (presentation by Prof. Joachim Sturmberg) Followed by comments and discussion. Conference Dinner at Restaurant in Lancaster Day 3 Theme Three: Using Complexity to Help Manage Health in Europe Session F: (9:00 - 10:30) The State of European Union Health Policy (presentation by Monika Kosinska, Secretary General European Public Health Alliance) Followed by comments and discussion. Coffee Break (10:30 - 11:00) Session G: (11:00 - 12:30) Introduction to EU health research funding (presentation by Chris White, Brussels Office of NorthWest Health) Followed by a Roundtable discussion session on proposals for integrating complexity into European Health Policy and creation of potential European Complexity and Health Network.
