Special PPR half-day Conference : Mark Lynas's The God Species : hubris or hope?Date: 8 February 2012 Time: 11:30 am - 16:30 pm Venue: Furness Lecture Theatre 2 Environmentalist and science writer Mark Lynas's controversial new book claims that we must use our technological mastery over nature to save the planet from ourselves. It calls for the increased use of technologies such as genetic engineering and nuclear power, as part of a global effort to protect and nurture the biosphere, and suggests that the prescriptions of the current environmental movement are likely to hinder as much as help in this effort. In this special half-day event, the author presents and defends these claims, with responses from John Foster (author of The Sustainability Mirage) and Colin Bell (Faraday Institute for Science and Religion, Cambridge University), followed by a panel discussion with full opportunity for questions and contributions from the floor. All welcome (PGRs especially)! Places limited, so please contact John Foster to register. Refreshments and lunch provided free. Contact: Who can attend: Anyone
