From Lancaster to Westminster: A Political JourneyDate: 5 October 2012 Time: 2.00-4.00 pm Venue: Bowland North, Seminar Room 23
This talk is free and open to all Lancaster Alumnus Gareth Gould is a former Politics undergraduate, MA Student Representative and Secretary of the University Labour Club. He will talk about how his experiences at Lancaster University shaped his journey to Westminster as a current Parliamentary Researcher and Labour Candidate at the 2010 General Election. Gareth will provide valuable first-hand insights into working in the corridors of power and party political campaigning via his work in the Civil Service and politics teaching at other North West Universities.
Born and raised in the North West, Gareth was Labour Club Secretary at Lancaster University whilst studying History & Politics (1999; MA Diplomacy 2000). Gareth was election agent to Ellesmere Port MP Andrew Miller in 2005, and over 20 Labour council candidates in 2005-06. Since 2007 Gareth has worked as Parliamentary Assistant to Halton MP Derek Twigg, and in 2010 stood as the Labour Parliamentary Candidate in the Conservative stronghold of South Holland, Lincolnshire.
