PPR484:PilgrimageObjectivesThe subject area of this module is the sites and locations across the globe that are widely regarded as pilgrimage sites or routes, the activities, experiences and thoughts of those who visit them and those who are involved with the promotion and upkeep of such routes and centres, and the meanings of such journeys and activities. The focus is world-wide in terms of focus on geography and traditions, with examples being drawn from Asia (but especially Japan and India), Europe, North and Latin America) and from Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Christian (predominantly Catholic) and 'non-denominational sites. While the main focus is on pilgrimage in the contemporary era, some emphasis is also be placed on historical issues as well.
