Introduction to Research in the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion

PPR Research Interests

As a multi- and inter-disciplinary department, Politics, Philosophy and Religion academics have a diverse range of research interests, many of which fall into three broad disciplinary groups, and some of which are interdisciplinary and cut across these groups. Our unique combination of the disciplines of Politics and International Relations, Philosophy and Religious Studies has put us in the ideal position to develop these interdisciplinary fields of research activity.

Our academics forge links with academics across the university and across the world. Research collaborations take place with researchers and research partner organisations from UK universities and in Europe, Asia, the United States, Latin America and Australasia.

The department is home to the AHRC/ESRC Religion and Society research programme, the Richardson Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies, the Centre for Cultural Political Economy (co-hosted by Sociology), the Centre for Bioethics and Medical Law (co-hosted by Law) and the cross-faculty centre, Security Lancaster

The department also contains many informal research clusters and gatherings of shared interests: in political philosophy, diplomacy, Latin American politics, continental philosophy and theory, complexity, philosophy of mind and psychology, and public policy.
