PPR323: Ruling the WorldTutor: Christopher May Course DescriptionThe principle objective of this module is to introduce students to the central legal and organisational issues that underpin the political economy of contemporary global governance, through the combination of historical and political economic approaches to the various elements of the current international legal structure. The module is divided into four sections, commencing with a brief exploration of the multifaceted pre-history and early history of international political economic governance. In the second section of the course, the specific political economic factors that prompted and facilitated the development of the contemporary system of global governance are explored, and then in the third section this history is subjected to a number of competing analyses. In the last section of the course, the focus shifts to current debates about global governance, identifying key areas of current political economic debate and contestation.
