Research MethodsThe project is based on empirical studies, conceptual analysis and developments within the area of extraterritorial human rights obligations. The empirical studies (case-studies) are being undertaken by NGOs in partnership with the academic resource persons in the Consortium. The case-studies are selected on the basis of a set of criteria that will ensure a breath in the kind of human rights violations faced, actors involved in the situation, and geographic location. The selection of cases, and the work on them is ongoing. The steering group is therefore happy to receive suggestions for new cases to take up at any time (please note that suggestions will be considered, but up-take cannot be guaranteed). Parallel with, and informed by, the information gathered from the case-studies, working groups of the consortium will work on development of conceptual issues. These groups will produce briefing papers on:
The outcome of the case-studies and the conceptual analysis will form the basis for the drafting of principles on extraterritorial obligations pertaining to economic, social and cultural rights to be adopted in 2010.
