A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY ...

Born:

born in Liverpool in 1937.

Early years:

He was brought up during the Second World War against the background of the bombing of the city.

Schooling:

He graduated from the University of Hull in 1957.

Career:

Roger McGough is one of that country’s most celebrated poets, writing poems for adults and children and he is also a performance poet.. He is the author of more than fifty books and has written numerous scripts, including the script for the Beatles’ film Yellow Submarine.

Roger McGough began his poetic career with fellow Liverpool poets Adrian Henri & Brian Patten in the 60's, together they compiled an anthology called The Mersey Sound. He then joined hit band The Scaffold with Paul McCartney's brother, producing anthems like Lily The Pink and Thank U Very Much.

Roger is also the two-time recipient of the U.K.’s Signal Poetry Award and a British O.B.E.
