The Department offers a range of challenging undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and provides an intense and exciting learning and research environment for students, researchers and visiting scholars.

Undergraduate

studentsWhen you take one of our exciting degree courses in Sociology , Media and Cultural Studies (which you can combine with a pathway in Gender and Women's Studies) you will be taught by the leading academics in these fields.

Flexible Study

Lancaster University’s distinctive degree system is extremely flexible in allowing you to change the course of your degree if your initial choice doesn’t suit your needs. Our three module first year system allows you to explore other academic subjects before you settle into your major/minor or combined degree for years 2 & 3. As long as you studied that subject in the first year, you can choose to pursue that alongside your major as a minor, change that subject to be your major, or the more popular choice is to move to a combined degree.

Find out more about the subjects we offer and what our students say.

Visit Us

If you receive a conditional offer you will be invited to a special department open day in February or March, but there are many other ways to visit the University before making an application. Please see here for all the ways Lancaster University and the Sociology department is accessible to you.
