Welcome to the Sociology Department

Sociology at Lancaster is renowned for its creative and groundbreaking research. One of the most highly regarded departments in the world, Lancaster Sociology has played a central role in the emergence of this important field of academic study. The Department offers a full range of challenging undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and provides an intense and exciting research environment for research students, researchers and visiting scholars.

Undergraduate

We offer challenging undergraduate courses. You can study for a BA Hons in Sociology or combine it with a range of other subjects such as Criminology and Religious Studies.

Research

The Department has been assessed by the UK’s official Research Assessment Exercise as being in the top 5 group of Departments for the quality of its sociological research with 85% of our submission ‘internationally significant’.
