Thesis Working TitleEuropean Monetary and Financial Crisis Managament: Materiality and Discourse in Variegated Capitalism Research InterestsMy research interests cover a wide range of almost all aspects related to International and Comparative Political Economy, European Integration and Critical Social Theory. Based on the theoretical framework of a so called "Neo-Gramscian Extension of the Regulation Approach", my work is highly influenced by the critical theories of Karl Marx, Antonio Gramsci and Karl Polanyi, but also Max Weber and more contemporary writings such as of Nicos Poulantzas and Michel Foucault. In my PhD I am especially interested in the dynamics behind variegated European actor-specific interpretations of the current global financial crisis and the Euro-zone crisis, and how these interpretations (strategically) structure the process of European Governance and possible crisis management policies of the EU. Special attention is paid here to (national and transnational) capital fractions and the agential and discursive selectivities inherent in contemporary struggles about the definition of the crisis and the transformation and/or maintenance of certain economic imaginaries (meaning making). Therefore, I am drawing on the wider agenda of the Cultural Political Economy Approach, which places the interplay of micro- and macro-structural dynamics in the process of reducing the complexity of social and political practices at the heart of my research and leads to my special interest in concepts and methods of Critical Discourse Analysis and Theories of Everyday Life Practices. I am part of the Cultural Political Economy Research Centre (CPERC) at Lancaster University, administrating the CPERC Reading Group and working as a research student for the Great Transformation Project directed by my supervisor Bob Jessop.
