Research Interests

As a member of the Great Transformations project directed by Bob Jessop at the Cultural Political Economy Research Centre I am working on discourses of the current financial and economic crisis. My research interest is in the semiosis of politics in the postnational constellation - a focus I have applied to subjects such as polity-construction in the EU multilevel setting (PhD thesis), Europeanisation in Central and Eastern Europe, postsocialist transformation, and transnational political communication. More often than not, the discourse and field context of mass media has been the prism of these studies. My work draws on discourse theory, institutionalism, and critical realist approaches to social science. This research perspective is coupled with a strong interest in text analytical methods ranging from content analysis to corpus analysis and linguistic critical discourse analysis. I am co-administrating the CPERC Reading group.

Career details

I received my MA (Diplom) in political science from Otto-Suhr Institute at Free University Berlin in 2001 and have since then worked as lecturer and researcher at TU Dresden, European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), Free University Berlin, with research stays at Institut d'études politiques de Paris (CERI, Sciences Po), Institute for Advanced Studies at Lancaster University, and at the Centre of International Relations in Warsaw. I was member of EU-funded projects on EU enlargement and European public spheres and received scholarships from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Academic Exchange Service for my PhD-related work. I was awarded the Phd (des) in Political Science and Cultural Studies by European University Viadrina (Frankfurt/Oder) in 2011.
