Postgraduate - PhD Fees and fundingThere are a wide range of possible sources of studentships, scholarships and bursaries you will need to begin your enquiries in good time to meet deadlines. Quite a lot of our postgraduate students are externally funded. Our students have been supported by governments, grants from funding bodies, sponsors, and private sources too. We highly recommend applicants applying for the funding below also look externally for funding.
ESRC FUNDING (Deadline for 2013 passed)
It is important that applicants inform Rachel Verrall of their intention to apply for ESRC funding as soon as possible. In order to allow the department to review applications and suggest improvements to make them as competitive as possible please can applicants submit their completed ESRC form to Rachel as soon as possible, by 4pm on 28th January at the latest. We will then contact you and suggest any improvements for you to resubmit the final form by the ESRC deadline of 4th Feburary.
We are now accepting applications for ESRC 1+3 or +3 studentships within the Sociology Department. These studentships provide full funding (fees and living expenses) to cover one year of MA study and 3 years of PhD study at Lancaster (1+3). EU students are only eligible for the fees funding, not full living expenses. On the 1+3 programme, students take the MA in Sociological Research, which prepares them for doctoral research. They then complete three years of PhD research, supervised within the Department. The studentships cover any area of the Sociology Department’s expertise, including Gender and Women’s Studies and Science and Technology Studies. For details of staff expertise, see http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fass/sociology/profiles.
If you aren’t sure which pathway your research fits with please get in touch: once we have your application we can help align your research proposal with the pathways. The application process:
