The Department of Sociology's Gender Pathways

Students wishing to take this pathway would have to be formally registered as either BA Hons Media and Cultural Studies, or BA Hons Sociology students at the end of Part 1, and must also have taken that particular Part 1 option.

BA Hons Sociology -
Gender Pathway

The GWS Sociology majors cohort would be required to take the following core courses:

SOC200 - Understanding Social Thought
SOC201 - Research Skills and Techniques
SOC202 - Sociological Research Methods
SOC208 - Gender, Sexuality and Society
SOC314 - Feminism and Social Change
SOC360 - Doing Sociological Research Students will be put into a distinct gender studies dissertation group - this group would be led by a member of CGWS affiliated staff.

BA Hons Media & Cultural Studies - Gender Pathway

The GWS Media and Cultural Studies majors cohort would be required following core courses:

MCS.200 - Media and Cultural Studies
MCS.201/202 - Media and Cultural Studies Research Methods
SOC208 - Gender, Sexuality and Society
SOC314 - Feminism and Social Change
MCS 360 - Independent Research Project
Students will be put into a distinct gender studies dissertation group - this group would be led by a member of CGWS affiliated staff.

NB: Although this pathway is Gender focused it leads to an award of a BA Hons Sociology or BA Hons Media & Cultural Studies degree.
