Research Interests
I am currently working on the qualitative strand of the 3-year evalution of the 'Study of the Impact of the Skills for Life Learning Infrastructure on Learners'. The project has been commissioned through the NRDC and I am working as part of a team consisting of researchers based at Lancaster and Sheffield Universities directed from CSET.
From March 2007 I will be working as a field evaluator and operations manager on the 'External Evaluation of Islington Refugee Integration Strategy' with a team working from CSET and directed by Professor Murray Saunders.

Career details
Before coming to Lancaster I worked in various roles around the edges of mainstream education. For many years I worked in Special Educational Needs support, then moved into Community Education as a Family Learning Facilitator. From here I became the Family Literacy, Language and Numeracy co-ordinator for Plymouth LEA. At the heart of all of these roles my concern has been with the quality of the learning experience for those participating, which is why I have welcomed the opportunity to work on the above study.
In November 2006 I worked on a small piece of qualitative evaluation for 'CoBAL', which is a bi-lingual community based literacy project in North Eastern Cambodia being run as part of the NGO partnership 'International Co-operation Cambodia' who are working in community development at a number of different levels.
Other Interests and Hobbies
I spend as much time as possible in the open air walking the South West Coast Path, hiking on Dartmoor and sea swimming as soon as the water and air temperatures permit!
I have a long suffering family and friends who take it in turns to humour these interests and accompany me on these escapades.
My other great passions are music and the visual arts and recent years have found me exploring Jazz and Latin American classics; in particular the music of Esborn Svensson, Bobo Stenson, Tord Gustavsen and Piazzola on the one hand and the architecture of Mackintosh and Alvar Aalto on the other.
