To research individual and institutional barriers resulting in exclusion of individuals and groups in order to identify strategies to increase educational participation and inclusion and encourage lifelong learning.

To undertake participatory action research to explore ways of meeting the cultural, social, personal and academic learning needs and interests of learners currently under-represented within higher education.

To work in partnership with FE and HE partners, statutory and voluntary groups and members of the community to evaluate community initiatives, raise the profile of ‘higher education’, and identify barriers to participation in learning.
