Lancashire Aimhigher Context

One of the over-arching aims of Aimhigher Lancashire is to be inclusive and embrace diversity. Within the wider project there is a commitment to ensure that all activities support students within a single learning environment, yet increase participation from this currently under-represented group. Provision will include staff development, staff training to support disabled students and the development of appropriate materials and resources.

The Lancashire Aimhigher Disability (LAD) project was designed to contribute to this process by:

  • reviewing current support for disabled students in Lancashire Higher Education Institutions
  • identifying with Special Education Needs Co-ordinators (SENCO) in schools and Learning Support Managers in FE Colleges the current support for disabled learners
  • providing aspiration raising activities and focus group discussions with disabled pupils and students to gather their perspective
  • developing targeted publicity and support for disabled students attending summer schools
  • organising dissemination and consultation events to discuss ways in which Lancashire Aimhigher partners can continue to develop their support systems and transition arrangements for disabled students. back to top
