Trev Times

Find out what is happening in your college throughout the academic year by reading your JCR Newsletter, Trev Times. Trev Times is produced each week by your Media & Communication Officers and is circulated every Monday morning by your College Manager, Jo.

A bit more about our roles

The JCR Exec is comprised of Furness students who have been elected by Furnessians to be the voice of students in the college. We’re here to listen to your concerns and suggestions, and to support you in the best way possible. As well as this, we organise a variety of events throughout the year which help to provide a sense of community within the college.

There are 13 roles in total, each of which are listed below with a short description of what each role entails:

President: The primary representative of Furness College; in charge of organising and overlooking the JCR Exec; communicates with the SCR and LUSU officers; lead organiser of Welcome Week and the Winter Ball.

Democracy and Finance: Responsible for college finances; chairs JCR meetings; runs JCR elections.

VP Socials: Leads the Socials and Events officers; helps to run college events such as the weekly Trev Quiz; lead coordinator of 15 Hour Socials and Extrav.

Socials and Events (2): Creates and runs college events; runs 15 Hour Socials and Extrav.

VP Welfare: Coordinates Welfare team; compiles Welfare resources for the college; supports and signposts students to relevant support and welfare services; handles recruitment and organisation of all welcome representatives.

Welfare and Campaigns: Leads equality campaign to ensure students voices are heard equally; works alongside liberation group societies.

Welfare and Education: Primary representative on matters relating to education, accommodation, skills, development, employments and student opportunities; organises campaigns per term.

Welfare and International: JCR contact for international students; ensures all college events are inclusive; provides a weekly international hour for international students.

Sports (2): Organises sporting events throughout the year such as Patriots; posting sporting fixtures and results; supporting team captains.

Media and Communications (2): Creating and posting social media content; writing and editing the weekly Trev Times Newsletter; designing Furness merchandise; in charge of taking JCR Exec meeting minutes.


Join the JCR

Interested in joining? Elections will take place in November and June. If roles become available throughout the year, by-elections will be run so you would be able to nominate yourself then. When opportunities arise, they will be advertised on the college social media and within Trev times.

The College welcomes anyone to apply to become a Welcome Week Representatives and International Buddies for our new arrivals in October 2024. Final year students who are staying on for full-time postgraduate studies at Lancaster may wish to apply for College Community Assistants.
