PhD Supervision Workshop
Is this course for me?
All supervisors are invited to be briefed on the developments in postgraduate supervision and to exchange/develop ideas to improve the PhD experience. This event is not just targeted toward new PhD supervisors.
Course detail
Institutional expectations (rules and regulations around the PhD - code of practice, academic appraisals, RTP, submission of thesis and completion rates); supervisory interactions - roles, responsibilities and expectations; planning for PhD success (two streams: project lead PhDs/individual-led PhDs); giving feedback; supervising the writing process; Researcher Development Framework (RDF), development needs analysis and Research Training Programme (RTP); support for PhD students and institutional tools (My PGR).
Learning Outcomes
- Describe the institutional expectations that supervisors and research students need to be aware of
- Describe practical steps to improve the supervisory experience
- Know how best to utilise the RDF, and encourage students to access RTP provision
- Feel more confident in helping their research students complete on time.
