The Objective of the Service
To aim for equity of treatment with regard to grading throughout the University with responsibilities and competencies recognised appropriately, in accordance with the appropriate salary scales. To provide advice and assistance on developing appropriate reward packages.
HR Services will:
- take lead responsibility for developing and reviewing remuneration strategy and mechanisms
- provide Heads of Departments with notification of deadlines, procedures and forms
- service all bodies responsible for regrading and incremental awards eg Central Promotions Committee and Remuneration Committee and the Staff Awards committee
- advise these bodies, Heads of Department and members of staff on individual cases and remuneration policy
- implement decisions, notifying all relevant parties
- monitor and report on promotions and related activity
- review and revise policy and procedures as necessary
- in-year, to act on behalf of the relevant committees in accordance with established policy
- advise Departments concerning appropriate payments to recognise additional responsibilities
- maintain and publish information on pay scales, pay settlements and arrears
- notify individuals regarding the award of new or changes to responsibility allowances
- notify individuals of changes to pay following the award of upgrading/increments/ex-gratia/acting-up allowances
- provide advice and assistance on appropriate reward packages
What we need from the Head of Department:
- to submit applications by the stated deadline, to use appropriate forms and adhere to requests for standardised applications
- requests for adjustments above should be undertaken as and when the change is justified
- provide information on the continuation or change to responsibility allowances or other payments promptly and accurately
- to refrain from making salary commitments to staff prior to consideration by the appropriate body
