Grade and pension scheme	age when unreduced pension benefits can be accessed
Grade 7 and above (USS)	65th birthday
Grade 6 (LGPS)	65th birthday.
Grade 1 - 5 (LGPS)	65th birthday.

Staff may opt to continue in employment beyond their 65th birthday and are required to submit formal notice in accordance with their contract, when terminating their employment.

LGPS and USS offer options for flexible retirement subject to consent being given by the university. Staff who are interested in pursuing flexible retirement should initially complete a flexible working request form. Both pension schemes require advance notification - in the case of USS, the individual must give two months notice after the flexible working request has been agreed.
