Introduction To Outlook Web App (OWA)
Over the next few months (starting end of August) a new improved version of OWA will be introduced.
The 'Outlook Web App' client can be used for:
- access to your Exchange account.
- remote access to your calendar and contacts.
More information is available on the Outlook Web App page.
Outlook Web App
- Public or Private - choose Private except using shared computers e.g. in an Internet Cafe
- Logon - logon with lancs\(username) e.g. bloggsj, and your usual password.

Viewing Your Mail From The Web
To view mail from the web you must use 'https' to access OWA.
This is what you do:
- ensure Internet Explorer* (or Mozilla FireFox) is running.
- type: https://exchange.lancs.ac.uk/exchange
- See a dialog asking for a username and password.
- type: lancs\(username) e.g. lancs\bloggsj - note the 'backslash'.
- type: (password) e.g. foam45dot
https://exchange.lancs.ac.uk/exchange
Notes
This is secure encrypted logon. You do not *have* to type the 's', the old 'http' will be redirected to 'https', but is recommended that you type in the full 'https'.
The Outlook Web Client works best with Internet Explorer, works 'OK' in Mozilla Firefox and does NOT work with the Opera browser.
If it doesn't work in Internet Explorer:
- check that you have used a '\'(back slash) instead of a '/'(forward slash) after 'lancs' and before your username.
Secure Logon
The logon to OWA is secure (as indicated by 'https'). Your username and password sent over the Internet is secure, but you must use the 'lancs\(username)' style for logging on to OWA.
