Abusive Email Monitoring Offensive Email/SPAM Hoaxes
Email Monitoring
Members of the University should note that, in compliance with the RIPA legislation, "Communications on the University's computer systems may be monitored and/or recorded to ensure the effective operation of these systems and for other legal purposes."
Non-consensual Access to Email
The University will not normally access your mailbox without your permission. In exceptional circumstances, however, access may be granted by the Director of ISS following the University's Policy on Non-consensual Access to email.
Abusive Email
The sending of offensive or threatening email is a breach of University rules. If you receive such email, forward an example it to the iss-feedback (at) lancaster.ac.uk with a covering note.
Unsolicited Email, Junk Mail (SPAM)
The email support staff attempt to block unwanted junk mail but you will undoubtedly still receive unwanted emails - for further information, see the SPAM page.
Virus Hoaxes and Internet Hoaxes
Warnings about damaging computer viruses WRITTEN IN CAPITALS are usually hoaxes and should also be deleted.
Warnings about real world events written in CAPITALS can also be a hoax.
