
A system called SpamAssassin checks mail as it come in from the Internet and marks suspect messages as *ISS-Detected SPAM* in the subject line.
Filtering Marked Spam
Move 'marked Spam' to the 'Junk Mail' folder using the following instructions:
- Outlook 2007 - the standard office mail program used by staff.
- Outlook 2003
- Outlook Express
- Outlook Web Access - used from a web browser.
- Webmail - used by students to access Unixmail
- Mozilla Thunderbird - useful for home users.
Check That Outlook Rules Are Server Side
It is important that the rule for moving Spam ia a 'Server Side' rule.
- in Internet Explorer, type: https://exchange.lancs.ac.uk/exchange/ press Enter - see Outlook Web Access.
- click on 'Rules' option at the bottom left of the screen - see screen as below:
- Notice that the 'client side rules are grey and the server side rules are black.
- close the window to quit.

It is important have *ISS-Detected SPAM* rule in black as a 'Server Side Rule' so that works while Outlook is NOT switched on.
To edit your 'Outlook rules' follow the Outlook Web Access or Outlook 2007 links above as appropriate.
