Email filtering for Spam at Lancaster University

A system called SpamAssassin checks mail as it come in from the Internet and marks suspect messages as *ISS-Detected SPAM* in the subject line.


Filtering Marked Spam 

Move 'marked Spam' to the 'Junk Mail' folder using the following instructions:

Check That Outlook Rules Are Server Side

It is important that the rule for moving Spam ia a 'Server Side' rule.

  1. in Internet Explorer, type: https://exchange.lancs.ac.uk/exchange/ press Enter - see Outlook Web Access.
  2. click on 'Rules' option at the bottom left of the screen - see screen as below:
  3. Client side rules are grey, server side rules are black

  4. Notice that the 'client side rules are grey and the server side rules are black.
  5. close the window to quit.

It is important have *ISS-Detected SPAM* rule in black as a 'Server Side Rule' so that works while Outlook is NOT switched on.

To edit your 'Outlook rules' follow the Outlook Web Access or Outlook 2007 links above as appropriate.
