Creating a Rule To Filter Marked Spam With Outlook 2007
To filter (move) *ISS-Detected SPAM* in Outlook 2007 to the 'Junk E-mail' folder (for easy deletion) - do the following:
- click on the 'Tools' menu then 'Rules and Alerts' option - see 'Rules and Alerts' Dialog.
- click on the 'New Rule' menu item to create a new rule.
- click 'Check messages when they arrive' then click 'Next' button.
- click the 'with specific words in the subject' check box - see tick (as above).
- click on the 'specific words' option in the lower panel - see 'Search text' box appear.
- type in: *ISS-Detected SPAM*
- click the 'Add' button - see the text appear in the lower panel.
- click OK then click 'Next' - see next pane of Wizard.
- click on the 'Move it to the specified folder' check box*.
*Note - do NOT select 'Move a copy to the specified folder'. - click on the word 'specified' in the lower panel - see folder choosing dialog.
- locate the 'Junk Mail' folder and click on it.
- click OK then click 'Finish' then click OK.
The rule will start sending all new ISS detected spam to the 'Junk E-mail' folder.
Testing Your Spam Filter in Outlook 2007
You can test your new 'rule' and move existing spam to its new folder at the same time, by doing the following:
- click on the 'Tools' menu then 'Rules and Alerts' option - see 'Rules and Alerts' Dialog.
- ensure that your *ISS-Detected SPAM* rule is checked.
- click on the 'Run now' button (at the bottom of the dialog) - see 'Run Rules Now' dialog.
- select the *ISS-Detected SPAM* rule - see box checked.
- click on the 'Run Rules Now' menu item - 'Run Rules Now' dialog.
- ensure the *ISS-Detected Spam* rule is selected, then click the 'Run Now' button.
- when it has finished - click 'Close' button then OK.
The marked spam should be moved to the new folder.
