Filtering ISS Marked Spam in Outlook Web Access

You can create the Spam filtering rule in Outlook Web Access in Internet Explorer.

  1. run Internet Explorer (you need IE for some functions).
  2. into the address line type: https;//exchange.lancs.ac.uk/exchange then press Enter and login.
  3. click on the 'Rules' option at the bottom left of the OWA screen - see dialog as below:.
  4. New rule and change rule buttons

  5. a) click on the 'New' button for a new rule, OR
    b) click on a (black) rule, then click the 'Change Button' to start editing it.
  6. OWA Spam Rule

    1. type in a the title of the rule e.g.*ISS-Detected Spam*
    2. next to 'Subject contains' type (exactly): *ISS-Detected SPAM*
    3. click on the 'Move to the specified folder' link - see dialog similar to the illustration below:
    4. Selecting 'Junk E-mail' Folder

    5. a) click on the 'Junk E-mail' folder - this is the standard method - false positives can easily be recovered from the 'Junk E-mail' folder.
      b) click on the 'Deleted Items' folder - this method is the often used by 'remote workers' because the 'Deleted Items' folder emptied after three days.
    6. click OK - see the main 'Edit Rule' dialog again.
    7. click on the 'Save and Close' button at the top of the dialog.

The Spam filtering rule is set-up.
