About Outlook 2007
Microsoft Outlook 2007 is the main email program used by staff at Lancaster University to access their Exchange email on campus. It is part of Microsoft Office 2007 and available to many students who have bought personal copies Office 2007.
Configure Outlook 2007 to read Webmail Unix Mail
Providing you use the IMAP protocol (as advised below) you will still be able to access your Unix mail using Webmail after you have added the Unix mail account to Outlook 2007.
- run Microsoft Outlook 2007.
- click on 'Tools' menu then 'Accounts Settings' option - see 'Email Accounts' Dialog.
- ensure that the 'email' tab is selected then click on the 'New' button then click 'Next' button.
- select the 'Manually configure server settings or additional server types' option (at bottom of dialog).
- click 'Next button, then click 'Next' button (again).
- next to 'Your Name' type in your name e.g.Jo Bloggs
- next to 'E-mail Address' type in your standard email address e.g. j.bloggs@lancaster.ac.uk
- drop the 'Server Type' and select the 'IMAP' option (IMPORTANT).
- next to 'Incoming Mail Server' type: imap.lancs.ac.uk
- On Campus (including ResNet) or from home via VPN
next to 'Outgoing Mail Server(SMTP)' type: smtp.lancs.ac.uk Off-campus via ISP
next to 'Outgoing Mail Server(SMTP)' type in the name of the outgoing SMTP server of your ISP. - next to 'User Name' type in your Windows network username e.g. blogsj1
- next to 'Password' type in the password you use on the campus Windows network.
- ensure that the 'Remember password' option is selected.
- click on the 'test Account Settings' button - see two 'successful' messages - click 'Close' button.
- click 'Next' button, then click 'Finish' button.
If you don't see two 'successful' messages - click 'Close' anf recheck your settings.
Your Webmail/Unix mail will appear in a folder named after your email address e.g. j.bloggs@lancaster.ac.uk, below the 'Mailbox' set of folders (where Exchange mail usually appears).
