Printing From Apple Macs15:03 - 20/03/2013

A number of Apple Mac users may be experiencing problems connecting to printers on campus. The issue appears to be with Mac software's inability to automatically find printers on the network. ISS staff are working with Apple to try to resolve the issues, and working on guidance for users to enable them to connect to the printers in a different way. There is an un-patched vulnerability in the Acrobat Reader PDF system that could allow infected PDFs to infect your PC with a damaging Trojan.

Friday 9th Nov - Mail delivery to AOL email addresses is now OK.

Due to a 'Trojan' infected PC sending out Spam to AOL addresses, the University has been blocked by AOL. Delays in outgoing mail to AOL are being experienced by users. Users will get an error message back if their email has not been delivered to an AOL address.

Users are reminded to be careful about clicking on unknown links in emails and opening/downloading attachments in suspect emails.more »

New students to set up their IT account Before Arrival12:59 - 18/07/2012

New students will be asked to set up their IT Account and validate their PC or laptop for ResNet before they come to Lancaster at the start of the 2012/13 academic year. This will give the students access to IT resources (such as their University email) before coming to Lancaster, and access to the campus IT network and Internet as soon as they arrive. Information they receive via email will lead them through the process of pre-registration (in which they confirm specific personal information) then the setup of their IT Account and, where relevant, the validation of their PC or Laptop for ResNet. more »

Changes have been made to the 'lancaster' (open) wireless network to resolve recent connection and login issues. ISS recommends the use of the 'eduroam' (secure) wireless network for connecting to the University network. Network Maintenance15:52 - 25/04/2012

On Tuesday 1st May ISS will be performing essential network maintenance in Bowland Main, Bailrigg House, Great Hall and Engineering A8 lab. Work will begin at 06:00 and will be complete by 08:30. During this time users will experience a short disruption to both their wired and wireless network connections. IP telephones with extensions that begin with a 1 will also experience a short disruption to service, which will be minimised wherever possible.more »

'Lancaster' Wireless Problems15:47 - 25/04/2012

Users of the wireless network named 'Lancaster' may be experiencing very long log-in times (up to 90 seconds). Once logged in, users should be receiving normal performance. ISS engineers are working on returning the service to normal. The 'Eduroam' wireless network is working as normal and should be used in preference if possible. IE9 - saving files and MyPGR10:51 - 07/07/2011

Microsoft has recently rolled out the latest version of Internet Explorer (IE9) as an update for Windows 7 users. If you are using IE9 you may experience problems when trying to save files from your browser. There have also been problems with using IE9 and the MyPGR application within LUVLE. We are working with Microsoft and IBM to resolve these issues, but in the meantime if you are using Windows 7 and experiencing problems you should use an alternative browser such as Firefox.
