Microsoft Campus AgreementWhat is the Microsoft Campus Agreement?Microsoft has introduced a form of site licence for its main products, which means that a single payment licences all staff and public access machines for the most commonly used packages. The fee is paid annually, based on number of employees. The agreement includes upgrade and downgrade rights. What products are covered?Microsoft Campus Agreement includes the most current versions of the following products:
Who pays for the software?Campus Agreement is being paid for centrally. There will be no charge to the individual person or department who wishes to install the software. How long does the licence last? One disadvantage of Campus Agreement is that it is a rental, not a purchase scheme. The licence for any piece of software only lasts as long as the agreement. Should it end, any software installed under Campus Agreement would either have to be deleted, or a valid licence purchased. Who may use the software? The software may be used on machines owned by the University. It may also be installed
on staff office machines and on machines in public labs. For use on students' own machines
see Microsoft Educational Licences. Do records have to be kept of software installations? The agreement requires that records are kept of all software that is installed. This is to ensure that, should the agreement end, software can be removed or sufficient licences purchased. Failure to record what software you r department has installed could lead to legal action in the event of a software audit. What do I do to obtain copies of the software?Individuals may borrow CDs to install software, but must sign them out and agree to the conditions of use. If you wish to borrow an installation CD, you should contact Susan Holt in ISS on ext 10166. Installing WindowsIf you wish to install Windows XP or another Windows upgrade, you must have a previous version of Windows already installed. You may not purchase a machine with no operating system and install XP from scratch. For example, you can buy a new machine with Windows 95/98 installed and then have it upgraded to XP. What about products that are not covered? The agreement is not replacing the Microsoft Select Scheme .This will allow for the purchase of products not included in Campus Agreement, such as server licences. Microsoft 'Work at Home' RightsMicrosoft's 'Work at Home' agreement for software entitles staff to upgrade an existing Windows licence and Microsoft Office licence on 1 home machine. Please note, this is only for work-related and not personal use. Under the Campus Agreement ISS are not allowed to copy CDs for loan to home users. Instead the software must be installed using special Work-at-Home CDs. Work-at-home CDs cost £15 each. In many cases departments will pay for this as it is only for work-related use. If you wish to purchase a 'Work at Home' CD, you should contact Susan Holt in ISS on ext 10166.
