
Finding Your Folder Number
The documents will be stored in a 'your-username' folder under a 'numbered-folder' - you need to find out which numbered folder you have been allocated.
Your H: Drive Folder Number
Before you can connect your H:drive you need your number. If you don't know your folder number, follow the link below:
The number folders are located on one of three servers. Look up your folder number in this table:

| 00 to 19 | 1 |
| 20 to 39 | 2 |
| 40 to 60 | 3 |
Note down your 'server number' - for example if user 'bloggsj' has a folder number of '23', their server number would be '2'.
Connect To H:Drive
- ensure your Mac is connected to the campus network.
- click on the 'Finder' icon.
- click on the 'Go' menu then the 'Connect to Server' menu option - see dialog.
- type in: smb://homes(servernum).lancs.ac.uk/(foldernum)/(username)
- click on the 'Connect' button.
- type in your Windows network username (in 'Name' field) and your password (in the 'Password' field).
- click on the 'Connect' button - see H: Driver folder open.
Where username is the username you use to log into campus Windows computers. For example, if user 'bloggsj' would type:
smb://homes2.lancs.ac.uk/23/bloggsj
You can use your H: Drive to store documents.
Closing and Reconnecting
You can disconnect your H: Drive weither by logging off or by dragging the icon marked with the 'folder name' to to the waste basket/disconnect icon.
To make your drive easy to connect, do the following:
- click on the 'Finder' icon.
- click on the 'Go' menu then the 'Connect to Server' menu option - see dialog.
- ensure that: type in: smb://homes(servernum).lancs.ac.uk/(foldernum)/(username) is in the 'Server Adress' field.
- click on the '+' button - see the link in the 'favouries box.
The the next time you want to connect to your drive you will be able to find the link in the favourites box.
