lancaster is Lancaster University's open wireless network service.
Wherever possible, ISS recommend the use of eduroam for connecting to the University network. It is both more secure than the lancaster network and, once initially set up, easier to use in future. However, ISS are aware that some devices do not support the technology required to connect to eduroam, and therefore provide the lancaster network for use by those devices.
How to connect to lancaster
- Join the network as it is discovered by your mobile device.
- Once connected, open a web browser and either:
- browse to any non-secure Internet website (e.g. http://www.google.co.uk/) - you will be redirected to the login page automatically or
- browse directly to
https://wireless-connect.lancs.ac.uk/
N.B The automatic redirect to the login page will only work when connecting to non-secure sites (i.e. those sites whose URL in the address bar begins with http://).
If your home page is set to a secure site (i.e. a URL that begins with https://) then you should browse tohttps://wireless-connect.lancs.ac.uk/to reach the login page.
