Free Software and Microsoft Office

ISS are delighted to advise you that all students can now obtain free\discounted software including Microsoft Office Pro 2010, VMware workstation and can enjoy other popular IT products now and in the future.
New Software can be purchased from http://lancs-elms.lancs.ac.uk/ (by following the CoSign login process).

Please Note: Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2010 or 2011 for Mac for students is available as a 3 year subscription product for a one month period (during December 2012). You will be required to renew your subscription after three years. Should you graduate you will be able to keep your copy as a perpetual license.

New look for LancasterAnswers

A new version of LancasterAnswers, the searchable information base, will be launched on Monday 17 December 2012.
This version, which has a new look, includes:

  • A new user-friendly interface
  • Google-like predicted search terms
  • 'Copy URL' in Solutions, which enables you to paste a Solution URL into a document or email, for example
  • A public 'comment on solution' feature, which allows you to comment on Solutions and see previous user comments

You can access LancasterAnswers at http://lancasteranswers.lancs.ac.uk.

Fault Reporting in iLancaster

You can now report a fault in your room (or around campus) using the LUFix feature in iLancaster.
Typing into the LUFix search box enables you to choose from a list of options to report your fault. In addition, from the 'History' tab you can track the progress of a fault you've reported.

iLancaster is available for iOS, Android and BlackBerry, and there's also a web-based version. You can find out more, and download the app from http://ilancasterinfo.lancs.ac.uk.

Upcoming IT Training

ISS Training will be offering more free IT training workshops in the Lent term. You will be able to submit a booking form for these workshops from Week 1 of Lent term:

  • PowerPoint 2010 Workshop
  • Word 2010 Workshop
  • Excel 2010 Workshop
  • Scientific Posters with PowerPoint 2010 Workshop
  • Introduction to Endnote workshop - reference manager and writing solutions

Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Qualifications

Students have the opportunity to self-study and take exams to obtain Microsoft Certifications in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint modules. These will be available in Office 2007 and Office 2010 from Lent term.
On successful completion of the course and exam you will become a Microsoft Office Specialist in that particular module. Each certificate is a qualification in its own right - so you can take just one, or as many as you like.

Christmas Opening

Both the ISS Service Desk (located in the Learning Zone), and "The Workshop" will be closing at 17:00 on Friday 21st December, and re-opening at 09:00 on Wednesday 2nd January, 2013.
