Online Answers to Your IT Questions in LancasterAnswers

There's now an easy way to get answers to your Lancaster IT questions and problems at any time with LancasterAnswers, a searchable online information portal (currently in beta version). You are encouraged to make use of the beta version, and to provide feedback to help shape the system and its content. You can submit comments about an answer (Solution) you're viewing via the 'Comment on Solution' link, and there's a general feedback link on the home screen.

To get the best out of LancasterAnswers, login at the top right of the portal using your Lancaster username and password - this will give you access to a much larger set of IT answers, and enable you to save relevant answers as 'Favorites' and provide feedback from within an open Solution.

The ISS Service Desk is still available if your IT question can't be resolved using LancasterAnswers. Contact details and opening times are available on the Service Desk website.

There's more to come - answers to Student Based Services questions and problems will be available soon in LancasterAnswers.

The Workshop's PC support services move to new location

The Workshop - providing PC support for Lancaster students - has moved from its temporary base to a new location in County Main, opposite the Round House. The Workshop is a Lancaster University owned store providing cost-effective PC sales and services, including PC sales and support, computer health checks, virus/spyware scan and removal, mobile phone setup, file recovery, computer rebuilds, and more!

You can see details about the new location, along with contact details and a full list of available services on The Workshop website.

Live and On-demand TV on your browser

The School of Computing and Communications is now trialing its live and on-demand IPTV service. The service is completely free for all Lancaster University students and staff. All you need to do is to get connected to a campus network, visit the iptv site site and follow the instructions (a tiny ads-free plug-in to be installed for media playback). The service is currently operational in two forms. The first, 'LUPlayer' features live TV and a schedule of upcoming programmes.

The second, 'LUPlayer Labs' has the same features as 'LUPlayer', but some new and experimental features such as the 7-day catch-up TV and radio programmes (soon expanding to over 20 days!). Who needs a recorder if we are catching up with everything for you? Again, simply go to iptv.lancs.ac.uk.

The new certificate, which replaces the jrs-radius02 one, may require users to re-connect to eduroam. More details can be found on the eduroam changes webpages.
