One of the hard disks drives that contain 'H: drive' was suffering from failures and consequently, alternative space was found for the data. To ensure minimal data loss, two thirds of H: drive users had their H: drive made 'read-only' whilst repairs to H: drive were undertaken. The action taken to repair H: drive was successful and all systems are now back to full working order. Further information for full details.

Tuesday 23 August 2005 - Network Problems

21:12 Network monitoring has detected issues with one of the core switches this evening, this will result in patchy connectivity across campus, particulary those comms centres and servers located in, or connected back to our Faraday machine room. Investigations have revealed a potential problem with the Faraday core switch, the issue has been escalated to our support provider. ISS will continue to work on the situation to restore service.

UPDATE 22:23 - Testing has identified a faulty control board in the Faraday core switch. Network support have forced the switch to use the backup processor card and the switch appears to operating normally. A full fix will be applied tomorrow with the replacement of the faulty piece of hardware.

UPDATE 23:40 The fix of making the switch run on one processor card was not sucessful. Diagnostics are continuing on the faulty switch; users across campus will continue to see problems whilst these are being carried out.
