Some interruptions were experienced whilst planned maintenance was undertaken. On completion, all systems ran without major problems.

Wed 19 Oct 2005 - Service Interruption

There was a brief interruption to the service due to an electrical contractor inadvertently turning off power to an essential server. The loss of service was brief and ISS had all services operating normally within minutes.

Tue 11 Oct 2005 - Network and VoIP Maintenance

Adjustments made to the core network routers created a number of minor connectivity problems. These were fixed quickly and full service resumed.

In addition to the above work, a number of minor problems with the Voice over IP (VoIP), system were experienced. After making a few changes the VoIP phone system was restored.

Mon 10 Oct 2005 - ResNet problems and Email Viruses


Saturday 8th Oct saw network performance problems to Langthwaite and Brownthwaite blocks in Alexandra Park. This was caused by a duct collapsing and breaking the fibre. ISS have been working with JarvisFM and University Estates to resolve this problem.

There are several email viruses going round purporting to come from: 'The Lancaster Support Team', 'The Exchange Support Team' and similar addresses. These messages request you open attachments. ISS recommend you do NOT open the attachments - they are viruses and will infect your PC. For more details see: W32.MyTob.


Fri 07 Oct 2005 - ResNet Problems

16:00-16:30 There were problems on the Residences Network affecting several areas, large areas affected are Pendle, Grizedale, old Graduate College, John Creed, Bowland Hall blocks 1-7. You may need to reboot your machine for the network changes to take effect

Wed 05 Oct 2005 - All systems ran without major problems

Tue 04 Oct 2005 - WiNet Maintenance

08:00-10:00 During the network at risk period, the core infrastructure that runs the WiNet service was upgraded, causing an outage to all WiNet connections whilst the work took place.

The work on the Residences Network was completed. All users will have to re-validate with their Windows username and password (and not Library Card as previously).

Mon 03 Oct 2005 - ResNet Upgrade

Work started on the Residences Network, causing some outages in Internet connections.
