14:00-14:25: Due to a hardware failure in County South and IAS, the network and associated services were unavailable from about 14:00 until 14:25. The hardware has been replaced and all appears to be working properly again.

17:30 -20:30: Part of the exchange email system (Exchange-BE4) was unavailable from 5:30pm, for emergency hardware maintenance, following consultation with the suppliers of the system.

Wed 18 Oct 2006 - H: Drive and Depts Filestore Unavailable
13:00-17:00 Access to the user file store (known as 'H Drive') and the department file store '\\lancs\depts\(name)' was unavailable on Wednesday 18th October between 1pm and 5pm whilst we performed essential maintenance on the servers. Users of 'Managed XP PCs' were able to continue working on 'H Drive', but not on the 'Depts' folders.
Tue 17 Oct 2006 - JANET upgrade
07:00-09:00: During the network at risk period on Tuesday 17th October, our regional network provider upgraded their connection to JANET and the wider Internet . This caused an outage to connectivity to JANET and the wider Internet whilst this work was carried out.
Mon 16 Oct 2006 - Webmail v1.2 for Students Released
Webmail v1.2 has been released - new features include 'Quota Monitoring' and HTML Email Reading. Webmail has been developed with the active participation of LUSU and Lancaster students. The old 'Wing' email service will continue to be available for returning students, for up to 12 months, but the new Webmail service will override Wing as the default.

Wed 11 Oct 2006 - Exchange-BE4 Email Maintenance and LUVLE Maintenance
The EXCHANGE-BE4 system was unavailable between 13:00 and 18:00 on Wednesday 11 October. During this time a vendor engineer was replacing hardware and examining the system to attempt to resolve the persistent fault causing poor performance. We apologise for the inconvenience the protracted nature of this issue is causing.
LUVLE and 'My Modules' was unavailable from 14:00 on Wednesday 11th October for approximately one hour to allow for server maintenance work to be carried out.

Thu 05 Oct 2006 - Hardware Problems Affecting Exchange Performance
Users whose Exchange mailboxes are held on the Exchange-BE4 system are currently experiencing periods of very poor performance lasting around 10 minutes. These are caused by a hardware issue, and ISS are working hard to obtain a resolution from our vendor. Other measures are also being considered. Users with mailboxes on other Exchange servers are not being affected.
Wed 04 Oct 2006 - Exchange Email System Maintenance and Computer Security on ResNet
Following vendor advice, several of the exchange email servers were unavailable between 1pm and 5pm, on Wednesday 4th October, for critical firmware patching. This affected users whose mailboxes are present on Exchange-BE3 and Exchange-BE5.
Networking have become aware of a severe lack of basic machine security by some users on ResNet. Please keep your computer up-to-date with Windows Update and have working AntiVirus software installed. Warnings will be sent to anyone whose machine is found to be lacking in computer security.
Tue 03 Oct 2006 - Central Filestore Maintenance, and Exchange Email Service Break affecting Exchange-BE4 only
The central fileservers that provide users' H: drive were intermittently unavailable between 8am and 9am whilst ISS investigated a suspected hardware problem. Update 09:06: ISS met with unforeseen difficulties with one third of users' H: drive filestore, and are working to resolve the issues. We hope to return to normal service as soon as possible. Update 09:20: ISS have resolved the issues on the central file store (H: drive). Please report any further problems to ISS help desks.
The EXCHANGE-BE4 server is being affected by some hardware problems. Our vendors have advised us to carry out some urgent maintenance tasks, and this will involve the system being unavailable between 12:00 and 14:00 on Tuesday October 3rd. Users whose mailboxes are on other Exchange servers will not be affected. UPDATE 14:00: This system update is still in progress, and may take until 15:00, due to hardware failure. UPDATE 14:00: This has now been resolved.
Mon 02 Oct 2006 - Problems affecting part of Exchange Email system, Virus Outbreak on ResNet
The EXCHANGE-BE4 server was affected by some hardware problems. Users whose email mailboxes are on this system experienced poor performance. We are working with the hardware vendor to resolve this issue.
Due to a virus outbreak on ResNet, access controls have been tightened to limit the damage caused. The outbreak appears to have been caused by returning students connecting infected machines to ResNet. Please remember to have UP-TO-DATE ANTIVIRUS software installed and have a fully patched machine by using WINDOWS UPDATE. NB: If your machine is found to have a virus, your machine will be disconnected, and you will need to bring your machine to a ResNet Workshop.
