Wed 31 Jan 2007 - Internet problem

Overnight there was a problem with the webcache that prevented external connectivity on the WWW. This problem was fixed in the early hours of the morning.

Tue 30 Jan 2007 - Webmail Address Book problems and WiNet (Wireless Network) maintenance

An operational error on Wednesday January 24 caused around 1200 address book entries to be deleted from the Webmail e-mail system. We were alerted to the problem on Monday January 29, and subsequently were able to recover all of them from backups except approximately 10. Some user-specified configuration settings may now need to be re-applied. We apologise for the error and the inconvenience caused, and are taking steps to make similar occurrences less likely.

During the at risk period on Tuesday 30/1/07 the firmware was upgraded on a core device of WiNet. Work started at 8am and completed by 9am.

Network Outage in LEC - Owing to emergency power works by Estates, the comms room feeding the LEC building was without power on Friday 19th January from 08:30am. Work lasted about 30 mins. Users in the LEC building lost network connectivity whilst the work is carried out. VOIP phones continued to operate as they were held on battery back-up for the duration of the outage. ISS and Estates apologise for any inconvenience.

The border router was out of service 07:30-08:00 to investigate performance problems.

    'Student Finance Direct' Email Scam Circulating
    LUVLE and My Modules Maintenance,
    Emergency Reboot of University Router affecting Internet Access

There is a fake 'Student Finance Direct' email circulating. The subject line is: 'Update Your Login Details'. Ignore and delete. See more information.

Online Assessments, Module Feedback, LUVLE and My Modules will be unavailable from 2pm on Wednesday 17th January 2007 for approximately one hour to allow for essential server maintenance work to be carried out.

At 18:00hrs tonight the border router of the University was rebooted to try to resolve performance problems. This affected Internet access for no more than 5 minutes. Update 18:05 - The maintenance work did not resolve the problems. Further work will be carried out between 0730 and 0800 on Thursday morning.

Fri 12 Jan 2007 - All systems ran without major problems, CELT Moving to Furness

CELT, including the Learning Technology Group, Teaching Development Group, Student Learning Development Centre and Teaching Quality Support Office has moved to C Floor of Furness College. The LUVLE and Domino helpdesk is now in Room C60. Phone numbers will remain the same. Furniture and equipment are being moved on Friday 12th and over the weekend. CELT staff may not be able to receive or respond to phone or email messages until the morning of Tuesday 16th January.

Thu 11 Jan 2007 - WebMail and Unix Mail Services Restored

The WebMail mail and Unix mail services are now available again after failing overnight. The faults are believed to be unrelated.

Wed 10 Jan 2007 -
    Emergency Network at Risk: Fylde College,
    LUVLE and My Modules Maintenance,
    Exchange Email System Maintenance& Software Failure

08:30-09:30: Emergency power works taking place on Wed 10th January affected our core comms room in Fylde. For the duration of the work, users in Fylde college were without network connectivity.

13:00-17:00: The Exchange email system (including public folders) will be intermittently unavailable, for the application of security patches, on Wednesday 10th January, between 1PM and 5PM.

16:00-17:00: LUVLE and My Modules was unavailable from 4pm on Wednesday 10th January for approximately one hour to allow for essential server maintenance work to be carried out.

21:00-22:00: At approximately 9PM, 10th January, a software failure on one of the Exchange email servers (Exchange-BE3) caused it to go offline. This resulted in about a third of users being unable to access their email for about an hour. The server was brought back online, and system checks were run. No email was lost.

Tue 09 Jan 2007 - Network Maintenance in Fylde Offices and on ResNet

07:00-09:00 During the 'Network at Risk' period, the comms room feeding all of Fylde had additional switches added. This caused some outage to many offices between 7am and 9am while cables were rerouted.

08:00-09:00 Work was carried out to upgrade the core ResNet router, which resulted in a complete loss of connectivity between ResNet and all other networks, both internal and external to the University, while the work was carried out.

Wed 03 Jan 2007 - Change to LUVLE and My Modules Login, and Maintenance

From the 3rd of January, there is a change in the way students and staff login to LUVLE and My Modules. You will still use your network username and password, but instead of logging in via a Windows prompt, you will be taken to a separate login page. Please visit http://www.lancs.ac.uk/users/celt/luvle/newLUVLELogin.doc to find out more about why we are making this change and how it will work.

LUVLE and My Modules was unavailable from 2.30pm for 1hr to allow for Windows Updates to be carried out.

Tue 02 Jan 2007 - Internet Explorer Upgraded To Version 7

During the Christmas break, Internet Explorer was upgraded automatically, on Staff and PC Lab PCs, from version 6 to version 7. The new version looks different from the old version - help with version 7 of Internet Explorer is available at Converting to Internet Explorer 7.
