Changes to the Network Structure

During the 'Network at Risk' period on 15/05/2007 various changes were made to the network structure to improve the performance and reliability of the network. The buildings that were affected are: Bowland Annex, Infolab KBC wing, Pendle residences, Pendle Lab, George Fox and campus flats in Fylde and County South.

ResNet problems

ResNet is currently suffering from a hardware failure. Due to the nature of the problem the exact part that has failed has been difficult to trace. Further updates will appear as soon as more information is known.

Update 10:00 - A hardware part has been replaced. This appears to have reduced the problems.
Update 14:15: Following further failures another hardware part has been swapped, which appears to have made a big improvement.
Update 20:15: The failure appears to have been due to a complex interaction between Multicast and some software fixes applied a week or so ago. Turning off Multicast on ResNet might have resolved the problems. ISS Networking team will continue to monitor the situation.

Mon 14 May 2007 - Networking problems in Engineering Dept.

Network problems seen in Engineering between about 11:30 and 14:00 were caused by a network loop within an office where a switch was added without the permission of ISS. Networking are investigating why the network didn't recover from this without manual intervention.
