A hardware failure on one of the central Windows fileservers is causing problems for some users. The filestore is currently being rebuilt. Some users will experience a slow response from H: drive while the server is 'rebuilt'.

Temporary Lab Closure - Faraday A39
ISS have closed the Faraday A39 PC lab to allow for the replacement of all the PC motherboards. The lab is to remain closed until Thursday 13th September, but will of course re-open sooner should be the work be completed ahead of schedule. All other ISS PC labs remain open.

Online assessments and module feedback services will be unavailable between 1pm and 4pm to allow for software upgrades and maintenance.

Some users in Engineering experienced intermittent network problems causing a reduced level of performance when connecting to the internet or central services. The network support team investigated the cause and fixed a faulty piece of equipment.

Replacement of Core Switch
Replacement parts for the core switch were shipped to ISS overnight. To avoid disruption during the working day the fitting of the replacement parts was scheduled for 18:00. Two parts have been replaced in the affected core switch, approximately 3 short outages of less than 3 minutes were experienced in the period 18:00 to 20:00. ISS network support now believe that the performance problems have been resolved.

ISS network support investigated performance issues on the campus network and found it was caused by a fault with a core switch.

LUVLE, My Modules, online assessments, module feedback services and ISS bookings was unavailable between 2:00 and 5:00pm today to allow for a server upgrade and Windows maintenance.

From today new students who log-on to the network from their student residence rooms will validate using a new online system. New students will see ResNet Validation screen when they try to browse to an external website. The ResNet Validation pages will guide students through the process step by step and will not require a disk. More Information

The ResNet validation and administration system was taken offline to allow the application of a server upgrade. The upgrade was successful and ResNet is fully operational.

There were delays in the Windows logon process this morning ( around 15-20 minutes) for users restarting their PCs.

The central print servers were briefly unavailable between 13:00 and 16:00 for the application of security updates.
Groupman and Printer Credit System Unavailable
ISS upgraded the registration server between 13:00 and 17:30. Groupman and printer credit systems (web and kiosk) were not available during this time. Student printing was affected.
LUVLE and My Modules Maintenance
LUVLE, My Modules, On-Line assessments and module feedback were unavailable from 1pm until 3pm to allow for essential server maintenance work to be carried out.

High Performance Cluster Temporarily Unavailable
Due to a failure in the machine room cooling system over the weekend, the HPC (High Performance Cluster) was unavailable. Maintenance made repairs and cooling was restored to the machine room at about 4pm. The HPC is once again available and the service available later today. Any jobs which were lost during the outage can be resubmitted.
Eduroam and ResNet Validation Temporarily Unavailable
The Eduroam and ResNet validation facilities were temporarily unavailable this morning due to a problem with the server. ISS restored the services at 10:15 am.
