New Phishing Attack

A new form of Phishing email has been received across campus. This new message purports to be from the web mail admin messaging center and suggests it is sent to all web mail account owners. In fact, it is nothing more than a Phishing email. All members of the University are reminded not to reply and simply ignore it. Further details are available.

As part of the ongoing project, the Unix mailstore system was rebooted at 5pm to allow the application of an important update. Further information was available.

Mon 12 May - InfoLab 21 Network

A faulty network switch in InfoLab 21 was identified and replaced. A small number of Computing Department users were without network connectivity whilst the work was carried out.

New Webmail phishing attacks - A new mail message claiming to come from "Lancaster University Webmail Service" was received by users across campus. The subject line was "Confirm Your E-mail Address and Password" and requested the user replied by following the link given. ISS warned all users who received such messages to simply delete and ignore them. More details on the phishing scam were made available.

Wed 07 May - All systems ran without problems

Tue 06 May - Banner page removal trial

The two-day printing banner page removal trial commenced and saw all documents printed to ISS printers being printed without the standard ISS 'banner' page. Users were provided with detailed information and given the opportunity to comment on the trial.

Mon 05 May - Email Phishing Attacks Received

Targeted email phishing attacks received over the weekend.

All other systems ran without problems


Fri 2 May - Problems With Some Printers

A problem which caused loss of service for all printers attached to the CENTRAL-PRINT4 server has now been corrected, and the system is operating normally.
