Fri 26 Jun - Access to the Internet at Risk

Between 14:00 and 15:00 the Internet connection for the University was 'at risk' while our upstream provider did an emergency replacement of a part of a router. The connection to the University is resilient so no problems were experienced.

Tue 23 Jun - IP Telephony Maintenance

07:10-07:50: During the 'network-at-risk' period on 23rd June 2009, work was undertaken to improve network connectivity to the Voice over IP network (extensions beginning with 1). Outbound calling was maintained throughout the period, however there was a slight interruption to internal calling to/from extensions beginning with 9.Please report any telephone faults where your extension begins with a 1 to the ISS Service Desk on x10987 or via e-mail to iss-service-desk@lancaster.ac.uk.

The University webserver www.lancs.ac.uk was read-only from 07:00 to 09:00 on 18th June, whilst essential maintenance is carried out. All web content was available, but no changes to content were possible during this time

LUVLE, myPlace, my Modules, Online Assessments and Module Feedback was unavailable between 4pm and 6pm on Wednesday 17th June to allow for server maintenance work to be carried out

Wed 10 Jun - University Webmail Phishing Attack

Another targeted Phish attack has been seen on campus. It is supposedly from: 'University Email Upgrade Team' with the subject: 'Attention: Upgrade Your University Web E-mail Account'. This is a bogus message 'phishing' for your ID. Do NOT reply. More information

The web 'Room Booking System' is now available.


Fri 5 Jun - Web Room Bookings System

The web 'Room Bookings System' is currently unavailable - the fault has been identified and we are awaiting resolution from the supplier. Any new room booking requests for Monday 8th June to Wednesday 10th June should be emailed to room.bookings @ lancaster.ac.uk until the system becomes available again.

Thu 4 Jun - Estates News: South Campus Telephone Lines Fixed

Work has now been completed to rectify the issues with the telephone lines to the south of campus. Normal services have been resumed, however if you feel you are still experiencing problems with the telephone lines, please contact the Estates helpdesk, either via email estates.helpdesk@lancaster.ac.uk or telephone 01524 593333.

Wed 3 Jun - New Targeted Phishing Attack

A message purporting to come from "Lancaster University Webmaster online" with the subject: "Dear Lancaster University Webmail online Email Account Owner," has been arriving in campus inboxes. This is an external phishing attack do NOT reply to the email. ISS never ask for account details by email. See: Targetted Virus Threats

Tue 2 Jun - Estates News: South Campus Telephone Lines

Work is progressing well to rectify the issues with the telephone lines to the south of campus. This work should be completed within the original timeframe of the next few days. The buildings that continue to be affected are:

George Fox; Pendle College; Grizedale College; Lonsdale College; Cartmel College; Graduate College; Training Centre at Lancaster House Hotel

Temporary VOIP lines have been installed to the above areas and diverts on the lines for College Porters, College Administrators and CROs have been put in place. To contact Marketing please call either Bev Moss or Yvonne Nuttall.

Tue 2 Jun - Internet Interruption: JANET/CANLMAN Resilience Testing

07:00-08:00 - During the 'network at risk' period on Tuesday 2nd June 09, the University's Internet Service Provider, CANLMAN, performed resilience testing on the connections between CANLMAN and the core JANET network. This had a minor effect on connections between Lancaster University and the Internet. A small number of very short outages (< 1 minute) were experienced.

Mon 1 Jun - Estates News: South Campus Telephone Lines

Due to an incident involving the main telephone lines serving the south end of campus some functionality has been lost to buildings at the south end of campus.  This is affecting analogue phone numbers which begin with 9. Users are unable to telephone out or receive calls internally and externally. The incident is being investigated and all efforts will be made to restore the service, however, the lines may be down for a few days. The buildings affected are: -

George Fox; Pendle College; Grizedale College; Lonsdale College; Cartmel College; Graduate College; Training Centre at Lancaster House Hotel
