Mon 29 Dec - HPC Powered Down
Due to essential electrical maintenance on campus over the closure period, the HPC was powered down between 12:30 and 16:30.
Thu 24 Dec - Mon 04 Jan - Christmas Closure
The University closed at 12:45 on Thursday 24th December, 2009 and re-opened at 09:00 on Monday 4th January, 2010. All ISS (staffed) services were unavailable during this time, whilst all other services ran unattended. ISS technical staff monitor core IT services remotely and in the event of a system failing they will endeavour to restart the service.
Christmas Period Email Threats
Users were warned to beware of new 'Phish' and 'Trojan' attacks over the Christmas holiday period. The attacks were expected to come in email messages with a shopping or seasonal flavour.

Issues with inbound calling to VOIP numbers
ISS investigated call related issues with VOIP extensions. This also affected calls to the ISS Service Desk and VOIP voice mail.
Network Connectivity Issues
ISS Engineers investigated network connectivity problems in Bailrigg House. The outage was caused by a power outage to the room housing networking equipment. Temporary power was supplied and networking service was restored.

Thu 17 Dec - Network Interruptions in Physics Building Caused by Contractors
Brief network outages in the Physics building were caused by electrical contractors working in the building - no further outages are expected.

The following services were moved to the ISS building and are now available: LUVLE; MyPlace & MyPGR; Question Mark Perception; LUMES; Moodle

Performance Problems Across Campus
The substantial virtual server infrastructure hasnow been moved to the new ISS building. During the move, some users across campus experienced a reduced level of system responsiveness.

Tue 15 Dec - All systems ran without problems
Mon 14 Dec - HPC Service Restored after Reboot
The HPC head node corona was rebooted at midday to correct a systems problem. Serial jobs previously running will not have been affected, but SCore jobs will need to be resubmitted.
Sat 12 Dec - ISS Service Moves Completed
All services listed below have now been moved to the ISS building and are available. If you experience any difficulties please contact the ISS Service Desk
* WiNet - The University's wireless network
* Flying Leads - a service for connecting laptops to the wired network
Users may experience a slightly reduced level of system responsiveness on applications running on virtualised server infrastructure. ISS is moving over 140 virtual systems to the ISS Building between Sat 12th and Fri 18th December. No disruption is expected

Some staff are currently unable to access shared Departmental Filestores - ISS are investigating the problem.
Tue 08 Dec - Network Upgrade
07:00-08:00: During the 'network at risk' period the University's ISP (CANLMAN) upgraded the firmware on a core router and undertook resilience failover testing. This resulted in a number of short periods (less than 1 minute) of reduced service while traffic re-routed across resilient links.
Mon 07 Dec - The Croft and parts of Bailrigg House without Network connectivity
Owing to a fibre being damaged by contractors, The Croft and parts of Bailrigg House are currently without network connectivity. ISS Network engineers are currently investigating.

There are still some ongoing issues with Eduroam access. Authentication onto the network is not working for all users. ISS are working to solve the remaining issues

Problems Accessing Central Filestore
ISS investigated problems with access to departmental storage on the central filestore ("G: Drive" for some users). Filestore services is now fixed, ISS will continue to monitor the situation.
Tue 01 Dec - Telephone Problems Resolved, and Network Maintenance in ISS Building and Reception Lodge/Security Building
Telephone Problems Resolved: Dialing numbers beginning 9 from extensions beginning with a 1
Update 1st Dec 14:44: Siemens engineers have identified and repaired a fault with the telephone system. If you continue to experience issues with dialling between the two systems on campus, please either contact the operators on "0" or the ISS Service Desk on extension 10987.
Network Maintenance in ISS Building
During the Network at Risk period on 1st December work will be carried out to shift the routing points for the various networks in the ISS Building from the old Computer Centre down to the ISS Building, allowing for improved resiliency and redundancy of the networks in that area. During this work network connectivity should not be expected in the ISS Building. Work will begin at 07:00 and should be complete by 08:30.
Network Maintenance in Reception Lodge/Security Building
During the network at risk period on 1st December there will be network connectivity outages in the Reception Lodge/Security building while new equipment is installed to make new data lines live. Service should be restored by 08:45.
