Tue 26 Jan - Eduroam and 'lancaster' Access To WiNet Availability Issues

14:30 - Eduroam and 'lancaster' access to WiNet service restored.

12:30 - there are continuing problems with Eduroam and 'lancaster' access to the Wireless Network (WiNet). ISS is investigating.

At about 12:20 there was a brief interruption to the Eduroam and 'lancaster' access to the Wireless Network (WiNet)service. WiNet is currently operating normally.

Mon 25 Jan - Microsoft Security Update

Microsoft have issued a security update for Windows which will be appearing on your PC on Monday 25 January 2010. Please take a couple of minutes to do the 'restart' when prompted. Your PC will be more secure after the restart.

Tue 19 Jan - Minor problem with Eduroam

A problem with Eduroam resulted in users being unable to authenticate onto WiNet (WiFi Network.) ISS investigated and quickly resolved the issue.

Fri 15 Jan - All systems ran without problems; Official opening of the ISS Learning Zone

The ISS Learning Zone was formally opened. ISS Service Desk support via telephone (ext: 10987) and email was not interrupted.

Thu 14 Jan - Some Systems Unavailable Between 3pm and 4pm

Due to an issue with a virtual server several services including: ResNet, network printing and WiNet were unavailable between 15:00 and 16:00.

Wed 06 Jan - LUSI Downtime & ISS Service Moves

LUSI Downtime

In order to undertake essential hardware repairs LUSI was subject to downtime for approximately 30 minutes during the morning.

More ISS Services Moved To The New ISS Building  

The following ISS Services were moved to the ISS Building rendering them temporarily unavailable during the move.

  • VPN (secure remote access.)
  • Central-show (serves streaming Real Media.)
  • Exchange Email (Outlook - no disruption.)
  • University Website - no disruption.
  • Mail Hubs - no disruption.

No other services will be affected. The move is timed during a period of relatively low usage.More Information


Tue 05 Jan - All systems ran without problems

Mon 04 Jan - Services Outage

Many ISS services including 'Message of The Day' and 'Network Printing' were unavailable between 11:30am and 12:30pm. The outage was caused by unexpected hardware fault.


Sat 02 Jan - Incoming mail mis-tagged as SPAM

A problem in the central spam-detection system caused genuine incoming and outgoing mail to be marked as SPAM on or after January. Users were asked to check any messages tagged as SPAM carefully before deleting, especially if they have rules that automatically move SPAM marked mail to a junk mail folder.

ISS resolved this problem very quickly, but recommended users check for incorrectly marked email.
