Sat 27 Mar - Network Move and ISS Service Move

Network Move - Chancellor's Wharf & Cable Street

On Saturday 27th March ISS Networking did essential work for the move to the new ISS Building, which resulted in a loss of connectivity to Chancellor's Wharf and Cable Street.

ISS Service move - Sharepoint

On Saturday 27th March 2010 ISS moved the Sharepoint servers to the new building. Access to all public-facing Sharepoint websites, RSS services, Central (Faculty, Department and personal) Sharepoint sites - was unavailable from 10:00-14:00. The postgraduate.lancs.ac.uk recruitment portal was unaffected. The 'Home Page News' stream on the 'Learning Zone', 'PC Labs', 'ResNet Home', 'OFFCampus Home' and 'Home Working' was unavailable during the move.


Fri 26 Mar - All systems ran without problems

Thu 25 Mar - Wireless Network Outage - RESOLVED

09:45 - The wireless network (WiNet) is currently unavailable. ISS is bringing WiNet back into operation, and the service should be fully available again soon. UPDATE at 10:45 - WiNet is now fully functional.

Mon 22 Mar - 'Blue' Webmail Phish Attack

A fake email with the subject: "Security Alert" and with 'WEBMAIL' in large blue letters in the body of the message has been arriving on campus. This is a phishing attack. Do NOT reply. More information.


Sat 20 Mar - ISS Services Moving to New Building

On Saturday 20th March the following services were moved. All services were restored by 14:00 unless stated otherwise.

  • VPN (secure Remote Access) - service restored at 12:00
  • IP Telephony features [Voicemail; CCMUser (Call Manager User Administration Service); Pinlock/Unlock] - service restored at 12:30 . The ability to make and receive calls was not be affected.
  • Syllabus Plus (Central Room Booking)
  • Agresso Database
  • LUSI
  • LUVLE continued to function but offering a reduced service - personal teaching and exam timetables were unavailable.

Wed 17 Mar - The Network is Now Stable, and Fake Facebook Password Warning

The Network is Now Stable

The Internet link is currently stable. Investigations into the causes of Tuesday 16th's outages are ongoing.

Facebook Password Warning

A fake Facebook email message subject: "Facebook Password Reset Confirmation! Customer Support" is circulating. Do NOT open the attachment.

Tue 16 Mar - Intermittent Network Outages including Internet connection

09:15 - Currently all networks are suffering from intermittent breaks in connectivity. ISS is working to correct this problem. UPDATE 15:50: Every couple of hours, a two second break in connectivity is being experienced on the University link with the Internet. ISS has placed a request for support with the appropriate hardware vendor. UPDATE Wed 17th March 07:15: The Internet link is currently stable. Investigations into the causes of Tuesday 16th's outages are ongoing.

Sat 13 Mar - Telephone Maintenance

10:00-12:00: On Saturday 13th March ISS performed maintenance on telephone equipment. During the work there was a short break in internal calling between extensions on the VOIP system (extensions beginning with a 1) and those on the POTS system (extensions beginning with 5 or 9). Calls to the Security Lodge and emergency calls were unaffected.

Wed 10 Mar - LUVLE and LUMES Maintenance, and PDU replacement

LUVLE and LUMES Maintenance

16:00-17:00: On Wednesday 10th March LUVLE, including LUMES, was inaccessible while systems were updated.

Power Distribution Unit replacement

12:00-15:30: On Wednesday 10th March ISS replaced a number of power distribution units in the ISS Data Centre. No downtime was required, but services were considered 'at risk' during this time.
