Thu 10 Jun - Break in Homes 3 Connectivity and HPC Memory Limit
Homes 3 Connectivity Restored
At the beginning of the day there was a break in connectivity with Homes 3 Filestore. Connectivity was restored at 09:05. Users who are affected by the problem should reboot their system to reconnect.
HPC - Memory Limits on Corona
In order to prevent a repeat of yesterday's head node crash, ISS has implemented a user process limit of 4G on the head node. Any process which attempts to consume more than this amount will automatically terminate with a segmentation fault. Processes which require more than this amount should be run on compute nodes.
Some HPC users will find that large compilations will now fail on the head node, and there are also some applications which are generally temperamental about such limits - such cases will now have to be run on the compute nodes only.
It is regrettable that we need to impose such limits, but ISS feels that they are preferable to having work lost.
Wed 09 Jun - High Performance Cluster - Corona rebooted
The HPC head node corona has been rebooted after a crash. Running batch jobs are unaffected, but MPI/Score jobs will have been terminated.
