Wed 28 Jul - Exchange Mailbox Moves Completed; Internet Connection Test; Central Web Server Maintenance

Exchange Mailbox Moves Completed

Some Exchange BE7 and Exchange BE8 users had their mailboxes moved. The moves took place between Wednesday 14 July and Wednesday 28 July. There was 'minimum impact' on mailboxes. For details see More Information

Internet Connection Test

On the 28th of July 2010 between 16:45 and 17:00 CANLMAN (our Internet Service Provider), carried out an IP resilience failover test between the CANLMAN and JANET networks (which provide our link with the Internet). This is in order for CANLMAN to fulfil their contractual obligations to JANET (UK). During the test, two brief interruptions (less than a second) to our Internet connection may have been experienced.

Central Web Server Maintenance

The central web service (www.lancs.ac.uk) was "read only" between 12:00 and 14:40 on Wednesday 28th July, whilst a hardware upgrade was performed. Web pages continued to be available, but no changes to web content were possible during this time. Please contact the ISS Service Desk (x10987) if you believe that there are any problems.

Tue 27 Jul - Bowland Networking Maintenance, & Building Access Control Issue RESOLVED

Bowland Networking Maintenance

07:00-09:00: During the 'at risk' period on Tuesday 27th July work was done to move equipment between two rooms in Bowland. During this time there was no network connectivity to the Learning Zone.

Building Access Control Issue

11:30: The card access door locks issue is resolved. The card access door locks are working normally.

Mon 26 Jul - Building Access Control Issues

The card acceess door locks on campus are currently not functioning correctly. ISS is working on the issue. Updates will appear here.


Sat 24 Jul - ISS Failover Proving Exercise

09:00-17:00: On Saturday 24th July ISS undertook a failover exercise on the consolidated resilient infrastructure. Some university services were not available for periods during the day. For details of the affected services, see: Failover Exercise Details


Fri 23 Jul - Network Maintenance in Infolab

07:00-08:30: A possible hardware problem has been detected in the router than connects Infolab to the network. Work to identify the exact problem took place on Friday 23rd July. During this period, the following areas were affected: KBC wing of Infolab, all servers in Computing and Communications Systems.

Thu 22 Jul - Facebook displaying a blank page

There is currently a problem with Facebook where users are seeing a blank page instead of the Facebook site. ISS have investigated and it appears that the problem is with Facebook. To workaround the problem users can visit http://www.facebook.com/home.php to access their Facebook account.

Wed 21 Jul - Planned Exchange Email Maintenance Outage

During the maintenance period, each individual Exchange user's email was unavailable for up to 20 minutes between 13:00 and 17:30 on Wednesday 21st July 2010 while the Microsoft Exchange email system was updated with security patches.

Tue 20 Jul - SPSS Problem RESOLVED, & Network Maintenance in Physics

SPSS Problem RESOLVED

ISS are aware of a problem that affected the statistical software SPSS. The problem, which related to the licencing of the software, occurred at about 11:00 this morning and caused users to be unable to access SPSS. The problem was resolved at around 15:00 today. If users are still having difficulty accessing SPSS then please contact the ISS Service Desk.

Network Maintenance in Physics

A possible hardware fault has been identified on the Physics building's networkrouter. On Tuesday 20th July at 07:00 work will take place to identify the specific problem and swap it if necessary. ISS hope to keep the disruption to a minimum and expect to have the work complete by 08:30. In the event of a router swap, the physics building network will be unavailable during the period of work

A dangerous email with the subject: "Statement of fees 2010" and a dangerous Trojan as an attachment, has been seen on campus. Do NOT open the attachment. Delete and ignore. More information.

Fri 16 Jul - Issue with the Online Facilities Planon Helpdesk

The online Facilities Planon helpdesk (https://facilities.lancs.ac.uk/) is currently offline. ISS is in communication with 'Planon' to resolve the issue. UPDATE at 10:20: The Facilities Planon Helpdesk is now online, but may go offline again. ISS is working to fully resolve the issue.

Wed 14 Jul - LUVLE Maintenance

On Wed 14th July, LUVLE was inaccessible from 16:00-16:40 while systems were updated.

Tue 13 Jul - Network Maintenance - Management School & InfoLab Buildings, and ResNet

07:00-09:00: During the 'at-risk' period, the network was unavailable for a small proportion of users in the Management School and InfoLab buildings for under 20 minutes. This was to replace Network Edge equipment.

07:00-09:00: During the 'at-risk' period, work was done to upgrade one of the core servers for ResNet. This resulted in a lack of connectivity for computers attempting to connect to the network during the at-risk period. Machines that were already running and on the network were not affected.

The scheduled (and essential) maintenance on network equipment serving the Gordon Manley building was carried out during the network-at-risk period (07:30 - 08:45). No problems were encountered.
