Wed 29 Sep - Exchange Mail System Maintenance

The Exchange email system was temporarily unavailable between 1pm and 4pm whilst security updates were applied. Some users may have experienced brief service interruptions during this period.

Fri 24 Sep - Outgoing Email Problem

Problems with the 'Barracuda' Spam blocking service caused emails from Lancaster University to be bounced back from other subscribers to the Barracuda service. ISS apologised for any inconvenience caused.

The problem was caused by a PC on campus becoming infected with a Trojan causing the PC to send out Spam. This was spotted by Barracuda and Lancaster University was listed as a source of Spam. Barracuda added the University to the black list and started blocking mail from University for subscribers.

Tue 21 Sep - Many Services Disrupted

ISS experienced a number of delivery problems with many services whilst undertaking software updates to core network devices. Work to fully restore all services was commenced without delay and normal service was resumed soon thereafter. ISS apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Mon 20 Sep - Exchange Mail problems

Some users may have experienced problems accessing their Exchange email. ISS have investigated and now resolved the problem. Users who experienced problems have been asked to restart Microsoft Outlook to re-establish a connection to their mailbox.

Tue 14 Sep - Network Improvements in Bailrigg House and County main residences

Work to improve network resilience in Bailrigg House and County main residences was undertaken. Users in these areas experienced intermittent network connectivity during this period.

Mon 13 Sep - Interactive Unix Service Upgrade

ISS upgraded the Interactive Unix Service (IUS) to the latest version of the Solaris operating system. Users are asked to try the new system and let ISS know if any other software or features normally used are missing.

A limited number of users may have experienced a brief service interruption during the network at risk period whilst ISS undertook essential network maintenance.

LUVLE was inaccessible for approximately 1 hour whilst systems were updated. All other systems ran without problems.
