Wed 20 Oct - LUVLE Maintenance & Exchange Email Service Maintenance

LUVLE Maintenance

LUVLE MyModules was unavailable on Wednesday 20th October at 4pm for about 90 minutes. During this time ISS worked with IBM to more fully test the system and identify the source of the stability problems we have been having recently.

To limit the effects on our users, today we will add a new server to further distribute the load.
In addition we are now testing a possible fix on one of the servers and expect the results this afternoon. If positive, it will be put on all servers this afternoon during the scheduled maintenance period. We are providing more detailed status reports and recommendations through the LUVLE website (follow the 'more information' link below).More Information

Exchange Email Service Maintenance

The Exchange email system will be temporarily unavailable between 1pm and 5pm on Wednesday 20th October, for the application of security updates. Individuals should see interruption of service for no more than 30 minutes during this period. More Information

Tue 19 Oct - Pass Rollout

The ISS rollout of the PASS system reached University House, the Reception Building and the Chaplaincy Centre . The Permissive Access Security System (PASS) will ensure that only registered computers can access University computer resources. Additionally, PASS will allow free movement of registered computers from one location to another.More Information

Mon 18 Oct - LUVLE Updates

If you do find your LUVLE space is unresponsive, you should be able to retry successfully only a minute or two later. More details and further updates can be found on the LUVLE updates web page. More Information

Fri 15 Oct - LUVLE Updates

The stability problems we have been experiencing with the system that runs LUVLE continue, though outages should be fewer and shorter now, with the impact minimised as far as currently possible. We will be continually monitoring services over the weekend to ensure continuity, while we and IBM identify the root cause.

If you do find your LUVLE space is unresponsive, you should be able to retry successfully only a minute or two later.

More details and further updates can be found on the LUVLE updates web page. More Information

Thu 14 Oct - LUVLE Update

Over the last few days we have improved the reliability of LUVLE by making some changes to the way the system operates. There have been no outages since 17.35 yesterday (13/10). However, if you experience an instance in which your LUVLE Space is unresponsive, please re-try after 10 minutes.

Other access issues, or any problems with MyPlace, MyPGR, LUMES, Turnitin or the LTG web pages, should continue to be reported to the ISS Service Desk.

More details and further updates can be found on the LUVLE updates web page.

Wed 13 Oct - Ongoing LUVLE Problems

The problems with LUVLE, as detailed below, remain ongoing.

Tue 12 Oct - Ongoing LUVLE Problems & WiNet Maintenance

Maintenance was carried out on the WiNet service. No WiNet access was available whilst work was undertaken.

The problems with LUVLE, as detailed below, remain ongoing.

Mon 11 Oct - LUVLE Problems

Two of the three servers providing LUVLE Spaces are experiencing problems. We are taking three courses of action:

  1. We are closely monitoring and quickly re-starting servers as needed.
  2. We are moving LUVLE Spaces to additional servers to share the load.
  3. We have referred this issue to IBM where it is being addressed as a priority problem.

If you experience an instance in which your LUVLE Space is unresponsive, please re-try in 10-20 minutes. While we are working on this server problem, additional calls or emails to the ISS Service Desk identifying LUVLE Spaces becoming unresponsive especially when you try to load them, will only receive a brief response saying that the problem is being worked on. However, other access issues or any problems with MyPlace, MyPGR, LUMES, Turnitin or the LTG web pages, should be reported to the ISS Service Desk.

Further updates will be made through the Message of the Day (MOTD).

Fri 08 Oct - All systems ran without problems

An issue with Hotmail/Windows Mail being delayed was resolved. Users were made aware that forwarding email to third parties increases the risk of delayed or non-delivered email.

Thu 07 Oct - File Store Maintenance & Mail Delivery Delay

File Store Maintenance

The Central File Stores will be temporarily unavailable between 7pm and 8pm on Thursday 7th October, for important maintenance. This will affect personal and departmental stores (h: and g: drives).
Individuals should see interruption of service for no more than a few minutes during this period.

Mail Delivery Delay

At present the University is generating a lot of mail which is being forwarded to Microsoft Windows Live and Hotmail accounts. Microsoft is limiting the number of messages that ISS can send to them per day and therefore messages may take longer (up to 24 hours) to reach recipients. ISS currently recommends that students should switch off message forwarding in Webmail to ensure University correspondence is received without delay.

Wed 06 Oct - Network Problems in the Management School

A problem with network connections in the Management School has been fixed by removing hardware which shouldn't have been connected to the network. A machine in the management school was handing out IP addresses to other machines on the network . Any machines the rogue server handed out addresses to lost all network access and stopped users from logging in. The rogue machine has been identified and disconnected from the network

Tue 05 Oct - Network Problems in Engineering Building & Problems with HPC

Network Problems in Engineering Building

ISS network engineers have fixed a problem which was degrading network performance in the engineering building.

Problems with HPC
