Tue 22 Feb - Network At Risk - LEC 1

Network upgrade work was undertaken in the first LEC extension of Biology during today's 'network at risk period.' No network access or VOIP telephony was available whilst the work was carried out.

Thu 17 Feb - Webserver unavailable

The central web service was unavailable for a short time between 1412 and 1415. ISS investigated and quickly resolved the problem.

Wed 16 Feb - All systems ran without problems.

Tue 15 Feb - Essential Maintenance & PASS Interface Upgrade

To improve network reliability, ISS undertook essential network maintenance on the student residences network (ResNet).

The PASS interface was unavailable between 7am and 8am whilst the system was upgraded. During that period users were unable to validate new computers or view their computers status. Network connectivity was unaffected.

Mon 14 Feb - Network problem in Bowland North

ISS network engineers have fixed a network connectivity problem in Bowland North. Users still experiencing connectivity problems are requested to contact the ISS Service Desk.
All systems running without problems.

Wed 09 Feb - Exchange Outage & Service Maintenance

ISS carried out essential maintenance on Exchange Mail Servers BE7 and BE8. Both servers were unavailable for approximately 40 minutes from 1pm.

Users who have mailboxes on the Exchange-Be7 and Exchange-Be8 were advised directly.

ISS upgraded the timetabling and room booking servers. Some services were unavailable from whilst the work was carried out, but were back in service by 5pm. Users wishing to make any bookings during were asked to make sure they did so before 1pm.

Tue 08 Feb - Phishing Attacks, Management School Extension Upgrade, Network connectivity Problems in John Creed Residences and Central Filestore (H: Drive) Maintenance

A number of user accounts have been compromised because the user has provided their credentials in response to a phishing email. See the phishing security webpage for more information about the attacks and how you can ensure you remain safe.

Network infrastructure was extended to the new Management School building during today's 'at risk' period. All VOIP phones and network connections were unavailable whilst the work was successfully completed.

ISS investigated a network connectivity problem that occurred in John Creed residences between 03:00 and 09:30.

Central Filestore (H: Drive) connectivity was briefly interrupted this evening whilst ISS repaired a fault.

Mon 07 Feb - Connectivity Problems in County Main.

ISS investigated a problem with the network infrastructure in County Main. Some users experienced connectivity problems for a short time until the issue was remedied.


Fri 04 Feb - All systems ran without problems.

Thu 03 Feb - News Channels affected by the SharePoint roll out.

The overnight roll out of SharePoint 2010 affected the automated news channels used by ISS. The channels affected were PC Labs, ResNet and Staff Home Pages and Threatwatch News. All were unavailable for a an hour.

Wed 02 Feb - SharePoint Upgrade

ISS rolled out SharePoint 2010 overnight. This was an upgrade from SharePoint 2007, and although most users did not see any difference, My Site owners saw changes. Details of the changes was and is available.

Any users experiencing problems after the upgrade were advised to contact the ISS Service Desk in the first instance.

All systems running without problems.

Tue 01 Feb - Core Network Maintenance

Maintenance was performed on the network core earlier today. Although successful, the result caused problems with the wireless network across campus so it was determined to roll back to the position prior to the maintenance. This will remain the position until such time as the maintenance can be undertaken without affecting other systems.
